Polyurethane Baseboards: The Ultimate Durable Floor Trim Solution

PU baseboards are the most durable floor trim solution available, outperforming wood, MDF, and PVC in the metrics that matter for baseboards — moisture resistance, impact resistance, dimensional stability, and lifecycle cost.

The moisture resistance is the primary advantage. PU is a closed-cell material, so it doesn't absorb water. A PU baseboard in a bathroom, a kitchen, a basement, or any humid environment stays dimensionally stable and doesn't swell, doesn't rot, and doesn't grow mildew. Wood and MDF baseboards fail in these environments within a few years; PU baseboards last for decades.

The impact resistance is the second advantage. PU baseboard (especially high-density PU) doesn't dent the way softwood does, and doesn't chip the way MDF does. A chair pushed back into a PU baseboard leaves no mark; the same impact on a pine baseboard leaves a dent. The PU baseboard's lifecycle is longer because it doesn't show the cumulative damage of daily life.

The dimensional stability is the third advantage. PU baseboard doesn't move with the humidity, so the miters stay tight and the joints don't open. Wood baseboard installed in January has visible miter gaps by August; PU baseboard installed in any season looks the same in every season.

The lifecycle cost is the fourth advantage. A PU baseboard has a higher initial cost than MDF but a lower lifecycle cost, because it doesn't need to be replaced. The lifecycle cost of a PU baseboard over 20 years is significantly lower than the lifecycle cost of an MDF baseboard (which needs to be replaced once or twice) or a wood baseboard (which needs to be refinished and may need to be replaced).

For sourcing, the right conversation with the factory is about the density, the profile, the height, and the finish. The factory should be able to provide a density value (in kg/m³) and a test method, and the profile should be in the factory's catalog or a custom profile that the factory can produce.

A practical note on the height. PU baseboards are available in heights from 60 to 300+ millimeters, with the most common range being 80 to 150 millimeters for residential and 100 to 200 millimeters for commercial. The right height depends on the room's ceiling height and the design intent — a tall baseboard in a room with 3+ meter ceilings reads as properly scaled; a short baseboard in the same room reads as under-scaled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is your factory MOQ?

A: MOQ depends on the product line: stock cornice and skirting profiles start at 200 linear meters per shipment, wall panels at 50 square meters, and custom OEM/ODM profiles at 500 linear meters or 1,000 pieces. Sample orders are accepted for most catalog items, with sample fees credited toward the first bulk order.

Q: What are your standard lead times?

A: Stock catalog items ship within 7–15 days of order confirmation. Custom tooling for OEM profiles takes 25–35 days for sample approval plus 20–30 days for bulk production. Air freight from Guangzhou / Shenzhen takes 5–10 days to most major ports; sea freight takes 18–32 days depending on destination.

Q: Do you offer OEM and ODM services?

A: Yes. Our factory offers full OEM (your brand, our tooling) and ODM (your 3D model or sample, our design team reverse-engineers and produces custom tooling) services. We can sign NDAs, work from hand sketches, photographs, or CAD files, and ship samples for approval before bulk production.

Q: What are your payment terms?

A: Standard terms are 30% T/T deposit on order confirmation and 70% balance against a copy of the B/L. For new buyers we also accept 100% L/C at sight. Long-term partners can apply for open-account terms after three successful orders.
